Empowering the Youth of the Northern Cape

The Department of Economic Development and Tourism in partnership with ESKOM and RETS (Robus Engineering Training Services) held a four day workshop at the Kimberley Eskom Towers from 05 to the 08 April 2016. Eskom has set aside R7 million for renewable energy projects  in the province and the purpose of this workshop was to encourage and invite the youth to take advantage of these opportunities offered by Eskom,  to empower & upskill  the youth and keep the money in the province, in the process of process of reducing poverty and unemployment.

Robus Engineering Training Services (RETS) is a 100% Woman Black Owned (BWO) Company. RETS has been established in 2013, which consist of a group of highly experienced business and technical professionals, with more than 25 years in the infrastructure and building environment. RETS has a matured network in the public and private sector within South Africa and is keen on identifying opportunities for growth & development, capacity building (skills development) and job creation.

Ms Revona Botha; Project Manager from I&E Electrical at Worley Parsons RSA, facilitated the workshop.  As a registered  Professional  Eng Tech and Professional Construction Project Manager,  with more than 22 years’ experience in the field of electrical engineering in South Africa, she encouraged the youth to tap in to these funds.

Mr. Mokubung, Manager within the Cooperatives Unit of the Small Business Development Programme in the DEDaT made use of this opportunity to present to the audience, the opportunities that the department has to offer to small businesses in assisting them to grow their businesses and the economy of the province.
