The Empowerment Unit within the Department of Economic Development and Tourism sponsored the Women Empowerment Movement International (WEMI) event that took place on Saturday 20 August 2016 at the Pniel Community centre.
WEMI is a Non-Profit Organization that champions for the socio-economic advancement of the empowerment of women in all spheres of society. Since its inception, it assisted to empower women with skills development, start ups, cooperatives and how to assess funding. The movement has empowered women in different sectors by sharing local economic opportunities and how to access those opportunities to enhance their profit margin within their respective businesses.
Mr Gift Bosman, a representative from the Empowerment Unit in DEDaT shared information on how women can work together with the department to ensure that more cooperatives are established and training is made available.
The attendees expressed their appreciation for the opportunity that was granted to them to interact with various stakeholders and explained that they are looking forward to other similar engagements in the future.
