The Innovation Programme

The long term strategic objective of the innovation systems programme is to promote R&D, innovation systems and creativity initiatives aimed at addressing the megatrends of non-beneficiation in mining, tourism and agricultural sectors which will result in the creation of an entrepreneurial culture among the youth and the unemployed persons. The programme promotes the development and implementation of the South African National System of Innovation (SANSI) driven by Department of Science and Technology in partnership with Finnish Government. It seeks to harmonise the sectoral innovation systems and regional innovation systems with the national innovation systems and strengthen cooperation and collaboration between key stakeholders: civil society, universities, research institutes, industry and government. The programme will focus on research and development, innovations and creativity initiatives as the key driving forces of the province’s competitiveness and economic growth. The competitiveness will be based on techno-economic and socio-institutional capability paradigms which will renew the resource base in an interactive and collective learning process, increasing the province’s productivity and innovativeness, as well as producing wellbeing for the citizens of Limpopo Province.
